Wasps, hornets and yellow jackets build nests under eaves, in shrubs, inside wall voids and in the ground across Oklahoma and the Dallas-Fort Worth metro. Colonies grow all summer and are often at their largest and most defensive in late summer and early fall.
Each one nests differently. Paper wasps hang open, umbrella-shaped nests, bald-faced hornets build enclosed paper nests in trees, yellow jackets often nest underground, and mud daubers leave tubes of dried mud on walls.
Since 2010, our local team has removed nests safely so your family does not have to get close to them. Pick your stinging insect below to learn how to identify it and what we do about it.
